Golden Horseshoe

The Czech equestrian series Golden Horseshoe is celebrating its 55th anniversary this year. It concerns the equestrian disciplines such as eventing and driving. Many significant names of equestrian world in the Czech Republic and Slovakia are connected with the history of the origin of this unique activity. Since 1970, the series has found its background on the Humpolec farm of the secondary agricultural school and at the same time has received significant support from the town of Humpolec. During its development, it underwent many forms and modifications. In the form in which we know it today, it has been operating since 1980. After many years, cooperation with Slovakia was renewed again, when this year's national driving event in Topoľčianky was included as one of the qualifying rounds of the Golden Horseshoe. It was the jubilee 55th year that became an event where we will be able to watch the competitors from Slovakia again in the final.

St. Nicolaus at the National Stud Farm Topolcianky

The arrival of St. Nicolaus is every year very popular especially among the youngest. By this occasion, the National Stud Farm Topolcianky prepared an impressive program for children.

The first visitors came at 3 o’clock in the afternoon. By the entrance, all the children were given a healthy snack sponsored by Agro Tami Nitra. The visitors could take a ride in a carriage driven by Lipizzaners and also see the historical stables.

The program started at 4 o’clock. The riders, vaulters and their parents told the story of Aladin, his magic lamp and three special wishes. The spectators watched the fairy tail accompanied by beautiful music and light effects. The riders wore historical costumes which made the atmosphere even more magical. At the end of the program, children called out St. Nicolaus. He came together with his helpers – an angel and an evil - in a carriage pulled by two white Lipizzaners. St. Nicolaus gave out at least two hundreds presents.

We believe that those who came went home happy and those who didn’t come will do it next year. It is worth it!

On behalf of the National Stud Farm Topolcianky we wish you merry Christmas and happy New Year.

Classical Riding School of Topoľčianky

The Classical Riding School has already got a 16-year old tradition. It mainly has a representative function, not only at home but also abroad. It is well known in whole Europe. The performance of Quadrille and the movements above the ground are in demand by different occasions such as anniversaries, opening ceremonies or gala programmes of the equestrian exhibitions. It is the promotion of one of the many activities of the National Stud Farm Topoľčianky as well as the promotion of the Lipizzan breed and its versatile use. At the moment, the Classical Riding School of Topoľčianky consists of 24 breeding stallions of different age and level of schooling. There are nine riders who work with them.

From the history…

The establishment of the Classical Riding School of Topoľčianky is closely related to the Classical Riding School in Lipica. Its performances were the inspiration and motivation to establish the school in Topoľčianky. The paradox is that the Classical Riding School in Lipica was established by a Slovak Emil Šulgan. He was born in 1903 in Nitra and belonged among the most important hipological experts of his time. He worked for the National Stud Farm Topoľčianky for 14 years, during 1948-1951 as the director. He was an excellent rider and trainer. He rose up such riders as Dominik Pružinský, František Hrúzik, Jozef Čajda and many others. In the sixties he moved to Lipica in Slovenia where he established the famous Classical Riding School. The Slovenian riders and their performances with Lipizzan stallions took part in many international events. In 2001, by the occasion of 80th anniversary of The Topoľčianky Stud establishment they showed their riding art in Topoľčianky. Two years later, the Classical Riding School of Topoľčianky was established. It doesn’t copy the school in Lipica nor in Vienna. It creates its own path. While the horses in Vienna are specialized on the work under the saddle and on the long reins, the horses in Topoľčianky are more universal since they also do the driving. Many of the horses also compete in sport dressage with excellent results. Two Lipizzan stallions have already gained a gold medal at the Slovak Championship in Dressage – Conversano VI-47 with Kristína Flaková in 2017 and Peter Vančo with Conversano XIII-47 in 2019. During its existence, the Classical Riding School in Topoľčianky took part in many international events. Among those most important ones surely belonged the agricultural trade show “Grüne Woche” in Berlin, or the participation at mega quadrille in Mannheim in 2007. Certainly worth mentioning is opening ceremony at “Pferd Wels” in 2014 which is regarded as one of the biggest equestrian trade show in Europe.

During 22nd – 28th August 2019, there was a traditional agricultural international exhibition Agrokomplex, which takes place in Nitra every year. This popular event already has a 46 year long tradition. More than 650 exhibitors came to promote their companies, services and products and more than 100 000 visitors visited the exhibition.

An integral part of the fair was The National Exhibition of the Livestock. The exhibition was opened by the minister of agriculture Gabriela Matečná. Many important people came to see the programme, for e.g. the former president of Slovak Republic Ivan Gašparovič. During the opening ceremony, the Quadrilla of the Lipizzaner stallions and riders from the National Stud Farm Topoľčianky was presented. It was supported by thousands of spectators and full tribunes. It is a prove that the Lipizzaner breeding is rightly registered in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Slovakia.

Another golden medal for the National Stud Farm Topoľčianky…

On 7th-8th September 2019, there was a Championship of West Slovakia in Show-jumping. The place of the event was the equestrian centre Cedos Trenčín Nozdrkovce. The senior category consists of the 130cm round and one jump-off.

This year, there were seven athletes on the start. Kristína Flaková with a horse Panavia represented the National Stud Farm Topoľčianky. Panavia is an 8-year old mare after Charisma from mother after Papillon from the breed of the National Stud Farm Topoľčianky. Only four competitors gained zero in the first round. Kristina Flaková and Panavia were the only riding couple without any faults in the jump-off. They became the Champions of West Slovakia in Show-jumping. The second place gained Marko Halo with mare Regata from the breed of the National Stud Farm Topoľčianky representing JK Trenčín Nozdrkovce and the bronze medal went to Pavla Sládková with the horse Rubel from JK Štefi Čachtice.
